Piano Sonata #22 in D minor - The Ice Maiden

The Ice Maiden

Where she came from, no one knows, but one day she was there. An unseen violin played music by the fire, songs of love filled the air, And of war, of good times past, of promises and plans for tomorrow, Of life and death and jealousy, of happiness and sorrow. She knew I could not turn my eyes away from her as she danced, And as the music set the scene, like a deer in headlights entranced, A white hart leapt but could not escape, captured with one glance. She knew my soul, it willingly submitted to her beguiling ways, My courage withered languishing in her breezy, blue-eyed gaze. Her lips were red as rowan berries that brighten Wintery days. When she spoke, it was silver bells the chimed the cloudy haze. I could love you endlessly, like water flows from mountain streams, Together climbing hills across the wildness where we dare to dream… We drank strong wine of tenderness, a bulwark against time, She never said, but silence spoke in secret mystical rhyme. A slow burning fire did not deny the passion in her smile. Love is a drug that seems to stop all time in its inexorable track, When suddenly I realized too late that there is no way back. As the music grew louder, the dance intensified, with reckless abandon leaping over towering flames that lapped the arch of frenzied flying heels, as dancers jump ever higher above snapping, snarling jaws of dragons... Irresistibly furious passion calls, "O! dear lost child of star-crossed destiny! Come to me, come away with me!" The drums exhort and guitars enrage, Then suddenly that terrible moment came when music ceased to play… And like a snowflake delicately balanced in the wind, she melted fast away.
