James Domine is a multi-faceted composer, author, performing artist, and educator who lives and works in Los Angeles, California. Domine is music director and conductor of the San Fernando Valley Symphony Orchestra, an ensemble that plays a leading role in the musical life of Southern California.
An active and prolific composer, Domine’s musical compositions include symphonies, instrumental concerti, a ballet, an opera, chamber music for a variety of ensembles including string quartets and a wind quintet, in addition to many solo instrumental pieces, most notably the twenty-four sonatas for piano (which are available for purchase on this website) and four suites for classical guitar. Many of his compositions are posted on his YouTube channel.
Domine earned his Masters’ Degree at the University of Southern California which he attended on a full scholarship studying musical composition and orchestral conducting after receiving his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music from UCLA. Domine is professor of music at several colleges and educational institutions including Los Angeles Pierce College.
Domine served as Rotary International District Governor in 1999-2000 and is past president of the Woodland Hills and Canoga Park Rotary Clubs. He is three times past president of the Winnetka Chamber of Commerce and has served on the boards of many community organizations including the Valley Cultural Center.
